Hold a hot steam iron against the damp cloth for about 30 seconds. Remove the wood moulding from the sides top and bottom of the damaged panel. Raise the wooden strip and pull the nails out with a hammer or pair of pliers. Center the piece over the hole lining up grooves on the patch and paneling.

Press a damp cloth over the scratched area of the panel. Check the panel to see if the steam has raised the wood fibers you. Scrape away loose debris from the hole. A pry bar or screwdriver will work to lift the edges without snapping them.

Cut some lumber to span the opening and attach it using screws through existing plywood around the opening.
